Linking up for another Five Minute Friday today. The word is “Pass”. Timer set for 5 minutes, ready, set, write…
“She looks like her daddy!”, so many people have said. And it’s true. But I see some of myself in her too. Maybe not her looks so much (except the teeth, sorry about that gap girlie) but in her personality, in the things she likes.
What do we pass on to our children?
It’s not just the set of chromosomes that make them who they are. It’s the way we act, the way we speak, the lessons we live out in front of them.
I want her to be kind and generous, so I must be kind and generous in front of her. I want her to be patient, curious, hard-working, gentle. I want her to speak kind words. I want her to be a good friend.
So I must be those things. I must model each of the traits I want to pass on.
Most of all, I want her to know Him. To know God as her Father. To pray as if she’s speaking to Him right there beside her. To trust Him in all things. To lean on Him when she feels unsure. To seek His forgiveness when she makes mistakes. To love Him fully and give Him her whole life.
That’s what I want to pass on more than anything else.
Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6
So much truth in this short post! It’s not what we say (‘be polite’, ‘clean up after yourself’) it’s what we DO that we pass on to our children! May God be with you as you pass on the good things to your daughter!
