Week 1: Creation

Read: Genesis 1:1-2:3

Apply:

Emphasize with your kids the fact that God is the creator – He made this whole world and everything in it! Isn’t it amazing to think of all the things God made?

It’s also important to remember that God made us. Each and every one of us is special and unique, created by the same God who made the entire universe.

With older kids you may want to point out that God made everything good, as seen in the verse at the close of each day, but when sin entered the world all of creation was impacted.

Make it Stick:

Creation Scavenger Hunt: Talk a walk outside and collect things from God’s Creation. Can you match each one to the day on which it was created? For example, a pinecone would be from day three when God made all the trees and plants.

Creation Matching Game: In this craft you will use paper plates to create “pie slices” that represent the six days of creation, then see if you can match them in the correct order.

Supplies: 2 paper plates, scissors, ruler, pencil, crayons/markers

Use your ruler and pencil to draw 6 pie slices on a paper plate, then cut each one out.

On a second paper plate, trace these slices again but do not cut them. Instead, label them Day 1 through Day 6.

On the slices you cut out, draw a picture to represent each day of creation. Depending on the ages of your kids, they can do this step or you can do it with/for them.

For older kids you may also want to write the verses for each day on the back of the slice (for example, Genesis 1:3-5 for Day 1).

You should end up with something sort of like this:

Now you’re ready to play! Practice matching the pictures on the slices with the corresponding days on the plate… this is a great way to learn and remember the order. Have fun!

Pray: Praise God for His amazing creation!

PS Don ‘t forget to start working on the memory verse too – Matthew 19:14 (seen above).

I hope you enjoy this first week! Feel free to let me know how it’s going in the comments section below. I’ll be sharing some updates from our family as well.
